Sir Paul Holmes' family home, Mana Lodge in the Poukawa region of Hawke’s Bay, is for sale.
It was the site of Sir Paul's investiture, held just two weeks before his death in February 2013. Sir Paul and Lady (Deborah) Holmes were also married there in 2003.
They bought Mana Lodge in 2000 and rebuilt it while Sir Paul continued his balancing his broadcasting career on television and radio until illness forced him to retire.
Lady Holmes says the purchase came after Sir Paul visited the lodge with his children.
“It has been a sanctuary for our family for 15 years, but we feel it’s time for another family to enjoy it, or an opportunity for someone to add value to the wonderful lifestyle accommodation and function business that we have created,” she says.
The 440sq m, six bedroom/three bathroom lodge property covers 18ha of countryside complete with an olive grove of some 2700 trees, which commercially produces olive oil.
It is being offered for sale by tender through Bayleys. Tenders close on March 3, 2016.
Bayleys agent Vicki Wallace says the couple built a 40m pergola extending out from the lodge conservatory into the gardens.
In 2013, Lady Deborah opened Mana Lodge’s doors to the public for use as a wedding venue and for private functions, including accommodation.
Ms Wallace says Mana Lodge is large enough to accommodate several families simultaneously. It is a 15-minute drive to Havelock North and Hastings.
An open-plan country kitchen forms the hub of the house, connecting the conservatory and casual living space, with a study overlooking the terrace and gardens.
The ground floor also has an entrance hall, several living areas including a sitting room and formal lounge, and a wine cellar.
The lodge also has accommodation in a two-bedroom gatehouse with a sleepout and ensuite.
