Sky Network Television [NZX: SKT] has confirmed it is signing a conditional five-year deal with NZ Rugby and SANZAR.

In recent months, New Zealand’s dominant pay-TV company, which counts almost half of New Zealand households as customers, has been in discussions with NZ Rugby and SANZAR – the South Africa, New Zealand and Australia rugby joint venture that was formed in 1996 and operates Super Rugby and the Rugby Championship.

“We are really pleased to have signed this agreement and are working hard to finalise the paperwork,” Sky chief executive John Fellet says.

“Kiwis are madly passionate about rugby and nothing is more popular to watch than live All Blacks matches on Sky.”

Mr Fellet says Sky's crew, "from camera operators to producers, call centre staff to advertising sales representatives, all love bringing New Zealanders rugby on Sky.

“We’re looking forward to more years of producing and broadcasting matches, build ups and shows, delivering world class experiences for fans around the country”.

Sky’s household penetration rate slipped to 48.7% in the past year, from 49% the year earlier.
