Sky Sport says it has inked a deal that will enable the pay-TV operator to provide live coverage of Australian cricket until late 2019.

The agreement starts this Thursday with the first test match between Australia and South Africa in Perth.

As well as the three-test series against South Africa, coming summer coverage that the deal enables includes the Chappell-Hadlee Series, tests, one-day-internationals and T20 games featuring Pakistan and Sri Lanka, and the Big Bash League and the Rebel WBBL competitions, which start in December.

Yesterday the Commerce Commission highlighted Sky's strong position in content – and sport in particular – when it scrubbed its November 11 deadline to make a decision on the Sky TV-Vodafone merger. The watchdog has asked both companies to make further submissions.
