Sovereign appoints new chief distribution officer
The role will see Richard Klipin lead Sovereign's distribution team.
Sovereign has appointed Richard Klipin as Chief Distribution Officer. The role will see Klipin lead Sovereign’s distribution team, which is accountable for the distribution of insurance products and services to financial advisers, bank and corporate partners throughout New Zealand. Sovereign is New Zealand’s largest life insurance company with a market share of 29 percent.
With an impressive career spanning 26 years, Klipin has held a number of prominent executive roles in the Australasian financial services sector.
Klipin most recently held the role of Chief Executive at Millennium 3, part of ANZ Wealth, a division of ANZ Banking Group. This role included leading one of the largest dealer groups in Australia with 440 advisers in over 290 practices, advising across investment, risk, general insurance and self-managed super. Prior to this, he was Chief Executive of the Australian Association of Financial Advisers, a key advocacy group representing advisers.
Sovereign, Chief Executive Officer, Symon Brewis-Weston says Klipin’s extensive expertise within the insurance industry, coupled with his leadership background will be critical to drive the strategic direction of Sovereign.
“Richard’s proven track record as a successful leader within the insurance industry along with his ability to navigate and lead through times of regulatory and industry change, made him ideal for this important leadership role.
“An important area of focus for Richard will be supporting distribution networks through a time of changing customer expectations, potential regulatory change and partnering with these networks to provide quality advice and support to customers.”
Klipin holds an MBA from the Macquarie Graduate School of Management, a Bachelor of Arts and Diploma of Education from Macquarie University, a Diploma of Financial Services from MLC Adviser Campus and is a Life Member of the Association of Financial Advisers.
Klipin’s role is effective as of 9 November 2015.
