Recently named Australasian media planner of the year by Campaign Asia-Pacific, Mr Cousins will be a managing partner of Naked.
Naked New Zealand director Matt O'Sullivan said luring Mr Cousins to the agency had been an ambition for some time.
"He’s one of the best in the business. This sets us up for a strong 2012, working with foundation clients like Coca-cola and Fonterra, as well as a couple of new ones”.
Mr Cousins said Naked Communications was shaking up the market in New Zealand.
"The senior team has a very clear vision of where the agency is going and I have a huge amount of respect for what they have achieved in such a short period of time. So this is an opportunity that I absolutely want to be a part of."
Naked Asia Pacific chief executive Phil Hayden said the appointment signalled a change in pace for Naked as it ramped up growth across Asia Pacific.
"We want to build a collection of the top talent in the business and we’re really happy people are keen to join us”.
Mr Cousins was leaving after three years, Spark PHD said, on March 9.
Spark group chief executive Louise Bond said they had been talking for some time about the next phase in Mr Cousins’ career and the role he was moving to held great appeal to him.
“Guy has made a significant contribution to our business and we wish him every success for the future."
She said Spark PHD was excited about the prospect of fresh thinking coming hand in hand with the placement of new talent into the strategic planning director position.
“This is a key role for the agency and we are progressing discussions with international and local candidates.”
