Brian Corban confirmed as KiwiRail chair

Acting chair remains in the top job.

Dita De Boni Fri, 06 Sep 2019

The government has confirmed Brian Corban as the chair of KiwiRail.

Corban, who has had a long association with rail in New Zealand at the board level, has been acting chair since Greg Miller resigned from the board to become chief executive in May.

He was previously deputy chair, and served as founding director and deputy chair in 2008, when it was in transition to Crown ownership.

He’s had extensive experience in leading Crown companies through restructuring and deregulatory changes, having served as the foundation chair of Television New Zealand and chair of Genesis Energy and Radio New Zealand. He’s also been a director of a number of other companies, including Corban Viticulture.

SOE Minister Winston Peters said Corban was an able and experienced chair “who will bring strong Crown governance and senior commercial experience to the KiwiRail Board at a time of significant investment in rail.”
