Manufacturing activity slips for third month, card spending rises

Production is at it lowest level in more than three years while a government welfare boost lifted the value of electronic transactions in July.

Manufacturers say their output has dropped for the third month in a row and that it remains below the long-term average.

However, the latest BNZ BusinessNZ Performance of Manufacturing Index (PMI) for July is at 51.2. A score above 50 reflects it is generally expanding.
