News presenter dies in Europe

Greg Boyed has died suddenly.

TVNZ news presenter and journalist Greg Boyed has died in Europe.

“It is with great sadness that we share news of the sudden death of broadcaster Greg Boyed on Monday, August 20, whilst in Switzerland with his wife and youngest child,” TVNZ head of news and current affairs John Gillespie said in a statement.

“He was absolutely loved and adored. A treasured son, brother, husband and father, he will be deeply missed.”

Mr Boyed, 48, had been battling depression.

“Greg was the kindest and most caring man, a devoted father who cherished and loved his two children. We are all struggling to comes to terms with this.

“The family are asking that at this time media and others respect their wishes for absolute privacy.”

Mr Boyed has worked on many television shows including One NewsFair GoQ + AClose Up and Target.

He was one of the three original hosts of Seven Sharp, when it started in early 2013.

Mr Boyed was to head up NBR TV on his return from Europe and publisher Todd Scott says he's devastated by the news, having developed a close bond with him in recent months.
