Vodafone fills new chief strategic officer role

Richard Mooney has been appointed following a global search.

Vodafone New Zealand has appointed Richard Mooney to the newly created role of Chief Strategy Officer, to help guide the business towards becoming a more digitally focused business.

Mooney has more than 20 years’ experience within the technology, media and telco (TMT) sector as a strategy and corporate development professional.  He has held similar strategy roles in leading telecommunications companies overseas, including Vodafone Group/UK and most recently at Liberty Global, where he worked on the recently announced Virgin Media O2 merger.

Prior to this, he was a management consultant with TMT businesses across Europe, Asia-Pacific, and Africa.

Vodafone CEO Jason Paris said Mooney's depth of experience withinn the TMT industries plus his strategic approach will be "invaluable during the next phase of our development at Vodafone NZ", especially as New Zealand looks to recover from the impact of Covid-19.

He joins the team this month.

Mooney holds a Masters in Science from the University of Bristol. In his spare time, he enjoys competing in triathlons and spending time with his wife and four children.
