A source close to the Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon sequel currently filming in Auckland has told NBR ONLINE the fire that badly damaged a West Auckland studio on Wednesdy night won't delay the production.
The blaze began in Studio 3 at the Auckland Film Studios in Henderson around midnight on Wednesday and took 60 firefighters three hours to get under control.
“They were very fortunate it was an empty studio that was being used as a sort of multi-purpose workplace,” the source says. “There was engineering in one corner, poly-carving in another, and the other end was sort of being used as a makeshift chippy workshop.
“The only thing that got even slightly damaged that might have been crucial was a very important cart prop set piece. But that is only superficially damaged and can be fixed.
“So realistically there’s no reason why the fire should hold up production.”
Studio 3 is one of five studios at the Auckland Council-owned complex and was insured, the council has said in a statement.
