Agriculture officials have received 14 proposals -- seeking a total of $257 million -- in the fourth round of the Government's primary growth partnership funding (PGP) funding scheme.

Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry officials said the proposals came from the red meat, wool, horticulture, dairy and forestry sectors with one cross-sector bid.

Some of the sectors seeking public money have already had a share of the $164m previously handed out, including the red meat, forestry, wool and dairy sectors.

An investment advisory panel will now decide which proposals should progress further and applicants will be told the results of the round about December 3.

The next application round will open in the first half of 2011.

The PGP is a government-industry partnership investing in research and innovation to boost the economic growth of primary production sectors.

The Government has budgeted $30m for 2009-2010; $40m for 2010-2011; $50m for 2011-2012; and $70m a year from 2012-2013 , for 50:50 investments with industry.
