RBNZ launches consultation on digital cash
Physical cash and coins will still be in circulation around New Zealand.
Cash use declined fast because of Covid-19 and was not increasing.
The RBNZ is assessing the merits of ‘digital cash’ with the launch of public consultation from today.
Director of Money and Cash Ian Woolford said the digital currency would be a new type of money in addition to banknotes and coins already in circulation, as well as electronic money in bank
