Echolocation using ultrasound and an app to simplify blood glucose management are among the various technological advancements proposed by some of the finalists for the 2013 AMP Scholarships.

“Technology is always a big theme,” says AMP’s Chief Customer Officer Jeff Ruscoe. “We look forward to these applications, which always offer us a new way to look at solutions to problems facing New Zealanders. The scholarships support the next generation in global technological advancements,” says Mr Ruscoe. “We’re proud to be able to get some of these innovative ideas off the ground.”

2013 AMP Scholarship technology applications include:

  • Claire Davies, who wants to develop the technology to enable blind people to echolocate using ultrasound.
  • Finn Mahon, who is currently designing and building a prosthetic leg for a six-year-old family friend with a below-the-knee amputation. He wants to help her learn to ride her bike.
  • Louis Golderwater-Christie, who is a finalist in the AMP Study Start Scholarship with the goal of studying quantum computing to ultimately develop commercial and consumer computers with next generation quantum processors.
  • Cameron Kilgour, who is aiming to simplify blood glucose management for diabetics by creating DiaManage, a mobile app with a NZ food database.

New Zealand’s leading provider of wealth management and financial solutions, AMP, has been helping people make their technology dreams come true since 1998 when the scholarships began.

Recipients will be announced at a gala dinner event on November 20 at Auckland Museum. More: www.doyourthing.co.nz.
