Private Bin can understand why a few people bristled over Air New Zealand’s cougar campaign (apparently the company's ethos of unbridled innovation extends to marketing), but the latest complaint about the airlines advertising standards made us chuckle.

From our ‘ridiculous things that offend people’ file comes this:

DECISION 09/758 – AIR NEW ZEALAND LTD

Newspaper

The advertisement for Air New Zealand said: “OUR LOWEST DOMESTIC FARES ARE NOW ONLINE ONLY”.

The complainant said it was offensive as they did not own a computer.

Code of Ethics, Rule 5

The Chairman noted the advertisement was to inform the consumer about cheap fares available online and it did not contain anything which in light of generally prevailing community standards was likely to cause serious or widespread offence as specified in Rule 5 of the Code of Ethics.

Chairman’s Ruling: Complaint No Grounds to Proceed

Private Bin can only wonder how many complaints would flood into the authority if everybody did own a computer.
