Treasury Secretary Gabriel Makhlouf has announced the appointment of Jon Grayson as the Treasury’s new Deputy Secretary, Financial & Commercial.
"I'm delighted that Jon will be joining the Treasury to lead this important portfolio of work.”
The Deputy Secretary, Financial & Commercial, is responsible for the New Zealand Debt Management Office, Export Credit Office, and Crown Balance sheet. As well as overseeing the Crown’s portfolio of commercial, and financial entities, Jon will lead the Treasury’s work on infrastructure and housing.
“This work is critical to our ability to raise living standards for New Zealanders and Jon’s extensive expertise in these areas made him a clear choice for the role," says Mr Makhlouf.
"We had a high calibre of applicants for the position and Jon’s appointment is testament to his experience and specialist knowledge. I look forward to him joining our Executive Leadership Team," says Mr Makhlouf.
Jon joins the Treasury from Australia where he has most recently held the role of Director-General, Department of the Premier and Cabinet with the Queensland Government. He previously had an investment banking career, and was CEO of an ASX listed infrastructure fund. With a strong background in capital markets and investment in major infrastructure assets, as well as major industry reforms, Jon’s senior executive career spans over 25 years in both public and private sectors.
Jon and his wife will be moving from Queensland to Wellington to take up the role. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) from the University of Queensland and is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management, and a Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
