Ray White agent Grant Dickson says former state houses have a reputation for being well built and on good, flat sites.

He says land values in Auckland have meant former state houses are selling at about the million mark, with minimal renovations.

“Banks are more likely to lend on state houses because they are of solid construction.”

However he says many former state homes don’t have the extra bathroom or study families are looking for and require further renovation.
