Tourism Industry Association New Zealand chief executive Tim Cossar is to step down from his role. He has been in his job for just under three and a half years.

Mr Cossar has been appointed to head the Rotorua-based New Zealand Maori arts and crafts institute Te Puia. Association chairman Norm Thompson says Mr Cossar will remain in his TIA job until early next year.

“He has been instrumental in lifting the profile of the visitor economy with government and other decision makers. Tim has shown real leadership through one of the most challenging periods the tourism industry has ever faced. We look forward to working with Tim in his new role.”

Mr Cossar took over as the association's chief executive in July 2008. The search for a new chief executive will begin immediately, Mr Thompson says.
