Tower Ltd said its chief actuary Herwig Raubal is leaving because he did not want to shift from Wellington to Auckland.

Eric Judd will become chief actuary for the group based in Auckland.

The insurer said it wanted to relocate the role to Auckland to bring the leadership of all its key functions together in one place.

After much deliberation Mr Raubal decided that he did not wish to leave Wellington and would instead stand aside from the chief actuary position. Following from this decision he will leave the company on December 31.

"Tower is very sorry to be losing Herwig Raubal. After 13 years with the company, including the last seven years as chief actuary, he is a key member of the senior team, a source of common-sense and wisdom and a respected leader of his team."

Mr Judd is an experienced senior actuary who joins from another insurance company.
