Two of the defendants in the South Canterbury Finance fraud case have revealed themselves.
Terrance Hutton is charged with false accounting in relation to recording an advance from South Canterbury Finance of a $10 million advance to Kelt Finance and subsequently, Southbury Group.
His lawyer Jonathan Eaton, who joined the application to revoke the earlier name suppression court order, said there had been a lot of talk about a $1.7 billion fraud case.
Mr Eaton told NBR that his client denied the charges and would "vigorously defend" them. He said Mr Hutton would plead not guilty.
The amounts involving his cleint were considerably smaller, he said.
The other defendant is Graeme Brown, who is represented by lawyer Richard Raymond.
Mr Brown was South Canterbury's chief financial officer until late 2009. He will also deny the charges.
Mr Raymond highlighted dramatic media reports which he suggested were out of proportion to the offence his cleint is charged with.
