Part of Auckland’s central business district was shut down due to power outages this afternoon.

A cable fault on Nelson St was identified as the cause.

Shortly before midday power was cut to parts of Freeman’s Bay and the adjacent fringe of the CBD.

Lines company Vector reported 680 customers - including business customers - were affected.

Vector now reports power has been restored.

Homes and businesses were affected along with traffic lights in part of the city.

Police officers were on point duty at some intersections to keep traffic flowing.

Meanwhile, a further power outage has affected Coatsville, Paremoremo and parts of Albany north of Auckland.
