Set up in 1982, Provet Holdings has approximately 375 employees, and owns and operates 10 warehouses across Australia and three in New Zealand, serving a total of 1900 independent veterinary practices on both sides of the Tasman. The New Zealand businesses are in Auckland, Palmerston North and Christchurch.
Based in Brisbane, Provet Holdings reported revenue of $A283 ($NZ371) million for the year to June 30, and its shares were last traded on December 16.
"We have further strengthened our position as the global leader in the distribution of veterinary products," said Henry Schein chief executive Stanley Bergman, whose global veterinary business now has annual revenues of nearly $US2 ($NZ2.6) billion from providing services to 47,000 veterinary practices.
Mr Bergman said the scale of the veterinary business allowed the company to share best practices across borders.
Provet Holdings is a full-service veterinary distributor and service provider, including pharmaceuticals, pet nutrition products, consumables, instruments and equipment, training and software.
