American dairy giant DairyAmerica will begin offering products on Fonterra’s Global Dairy Trade auction platform from October 4.

DairyAmerica represents nine co-operatives that between them produce about 45% of all Nonfat Dry Milk and Skim Milk Powder produced in the USA.

Its chief executive Rich Lewis said, “looking forward, the company would be managing a significant proportion of its export business through Global Dairy Trade, rather than through distributor and reseller arrangements.”

Mr Lewis said that “today’s announcement marks a ‘coming of age’ for DairyAmerica’s export business.

The first products to be offered by DairyAmerica will be Skim Milk Powder (SMP) products suitable for import into a large number of countries with other products to be added over time.

GlobalDairyTrade sales to date total US$4 billion. It currently trades around 650,000 metric tonnes of products annually and has around 350 registered bidders from 67 countries.
