Warner Bros trials movie streaming via Facebook

Batman flick available for $US3.

Today. Facebook users can rent a movie - to stream live over the site - for 30 Facebook credits (that is, $US3).

The idea is to bring the mountain to Mohommad.

Instead of visiting a dedicated commercial download site, like Netflix or iTunes, Facebook members can buy and view the movie without leaving the social network site.

For now, the trial's extremely limited, taking in one movie (the Batman flick The Dark Knight Returns), from one studio (Warner Bros) and only available to citizens of one country (the US).

But we hope it's the shape of things to come - or at least helps persuade Apple and others to arm-wrestle studios into releasing more content through the likes of iTunes.
