Katherine Skipper has been appointed Principal in the Wellington studio of multi-disciplinary architecture practice Warren and Mahoney.

Skipper, who is the project architect on the South Terminal expansion of Wellington International Airport, began her career as a graduate at Warren and Mahoney before leaving to start her own practice.

She re-joined the firm in 2012 and her portfolio includes experience with residential and apartment projects, as well as commercial projects as diverse as the Westpac Stadium and the fit-out of the Ernst & Young offices in Willis Street.

Katherine brings a consistent approach to design and her ability to listen and engage in a meaningful way, has led to positive results for her clients and to the built results, says Peter Marshall, Managing Director of Warren and Mahoney.

In her role at Wellington Airport, she has had to draw on these strengths, delivering results while working in the environment of a fully operational domestic terminal.

That challenge particularly appeals to me and its also exciting to think that this is a building that millions of people are going to walk through every year, she says.

As a mother of three daughters, Skipper is pleased to be an advocate for women in a management capacity within the industry. I am excited to play a leadership role in the practice and to add my perspective to the future direction of Warren and Mahoney.

Katherine's calm demeanour, her personable nature and depth of experience makes her a strong addition to the Principal team, says Marshall.

He also points out that the appointment is further proof of the practices ongoing confidence in the future growth of the Wellington market.
