The official website for the royal commission inquiry into the Pike River coal mine tragedy, which claimed the lives of 29 men, was launched today.
The inquiry will examine the cause of the explosion, the subsequent deaths of the men, rescue operations and safety regulations.
Justice Graham Panckhurst, a Christchurch-based High Court judge, was last month selected to lead the inquiry.
Queensland Commissioner for Mine Safety and Health Stewart Bell and former Electoral Commission chief executive David Henry are the other two commissioners.
Justice Panckhurst said the website included details about the terms of reference, the commissioners, contacts and hearings.
"We are most conscious of the significant and keen public interest in the Pike River mine tragedy. The website will provide an important public face for our work," he said.
The royal commission would operate independently of the Government but receive administrative assistance from the Department of Internal Affairs, he said.
Prime Minister John Key has said Mr Henry, a former Commissioner of Inland Revenue, brings years of experience as well as an inquiring mind to the commission.
He has also acknowledged the Queensland government for its cooperation in Mr Stewart's appointment.
Mr Key has said the report back date for the inquiry would be no later than March 31, 2012.
