Twitter users will be able to download their entire tweet history soon, CEO Dick Costolo told a conference in San Francisco.
Mr Costolo made his promise for the much-wanted at an event organised by the Online News Association.
"The caveat is that this is the CEO saying this, not the engineer who's building this. [But it is] a priority we absolutely want to have out by the end of the year."
Mr Costolo also addressed controversy over Twitter tightening the rules around third-party clients (apps that lets you follow Twitter, usually offering extra features to the official Twitter webpage, iPhone app and Android app).
Those with more than 100,000 users will need special approval from Twitter to gain full access.
The CEO said concerns were over-stated. Mr Costolo hinted that Twitter was looking to create an ecosystem that would better encourage third-party developers to add value.
The Twitter boss also vaguely sketched a new Twitter feature, still in the works, that would allow news organisations to "curate" tweets around major news events.
Cynics see the API changes, and news curation service, as attempts by Twitter to seize control of all ad revenue around its service.
