Westland District Council is the latest local authority to compile a list of earthquake-prone buildings.
The list includes many wellknown properties such as the Kumara Hall and race grandstand, Otira Hotel, Chateau Franz buildings, several churches, and most of the Hokitika business district and racecourse grandstand.
The buildings have been listed for earthquake strengthening as part of a new earthquake policy. Most of the buildings on the list are pre-1935 masonry edifices.
Any future building consents would require a full earthquake assessment.
