Women's magazine editor quits for PR job
Given the golden handshake after six years.
New Idea editor Hayley McLarin has resigned from her job heading up the mass market women’s weekly title.
Ms McLarin is going to take up a job as communications director for charity CureKids.
The magazine maven, whose husband Chris Baldock edits tabloid Truth, has headed up the magazine for the past six years and will finish up at the end of August.
"Whilst I am extremely sad to be giving up this amazing role, I have been offered an exciting opportunity working with CureKids, a charity I have strong links to," she said.
Indeed - CureKids chief executive Vicki Lee was Ms McLarin's boss as managing director at Pacific Magazines until late 2007.
Ms McLarin entered the company in its days as Pacific Magazines, before the licence to publish the title, along with others, was acquired by APN division NZ Magazines.
NZ Magazines chief executive Sarah Sandley said she was interviewing potential candidates and hoped to announce a replacement soon.
“We have ample time in which to make a smooth transition. Hayley has done a great job and the work she and her talented team have put into the publication will ensure that it attracts high-calibre applicants. We see a continuation of its success.”
NZ Magazines has seen a host of editorial changes over the past year, with NZ Women’s Weekly editor Sido Kitchin jumping ship to ACP competitor Woman’s Day late last year and taking her deputy Fiona Fraser with her.
Simply You editor Natalie Bridges resigned late last year.
