Wools of New Zealand chief executive Ross Townshend has resigned after less than two years with the Christchurch-based wool sales and marketing company.
Mr Townshend was appointed chief executive in mid-2013, following the capitalisation of the company.
It is understood that Mr Townshend, a Waikato sheep and beef farmer, resigned early last week and is returning to the North Island to resume his farming and business interests.
According to Mr Townshend’s Linkedin profile, Wools of New Zealand (WNZ) is a grower-owned business that links New Zealand wool producers “right through processors to customers using smart processes, smart technology, smart designs, valid traceability systems, excellent market connectedness and recognised and respected New Zealand branding.”
Since 2000, Mr Townshend has served as a director on numerous company boards, including dairy company Tatua.
From 1998-2000 he was chief executive of meat processor and marketer Affco.
Wools of New Zealand chairman Mark Shadbolt said in a statement that, “During his time with Wools of New Zealand, Ross has established many initiatives and has got the company operating well on an international basis, presenting opportunities for Wools of New Zealand grower shareholders. On behalf of the board and staff of WNZ, we wish him all the best with his pursuits.”
Mr Shadbolt will revert to the role of executive chairman until the appointment of a new chief executive.
