Reuters has reported that Yahoo!'s chief executive Carol Bartz was fired over the phone by the Chairman of the Board.
Yahoo Incorporated’s chief executive Carol Bartz was fired over the phone, Reuters reported.
The chief executive sent a two sentence memo to employees, a source told Reuters, which said “I am very sad to tell you that I’ve just been fired over the phone by Yahoo’s Chairman of the Board. It has been my pleasure to work with all of you and I wish you only the best going forward.”
Yahoo released a statement announcing a “leadership reorganization” where Timothy Morse was appointed interim chief executive officer, effective immediately. The statement said Ms Bartz had been removed by the board from her role as chief executive.
The Board also announced Yahoo executives to the newly formed Executive Leadership Council, which would support Mr Morse until a new chief executive was appointed.
Chairman Roy Bostock said in the statement he wanted to thank Ms Bartz for her service to Yahoo on behalf of the entire board.
The board was commencing a search for a permanent chief executive it said.
