Acting Energy Minister Hekia Parata said today the Electricity Authority's What's My Number website was launched 12 days ago and 118,000 consumers had visited it (though NBR notes that a certain Powershop.co.nz has managed to leapfrog it in the Google search ranking for "What's my number").
"This shows people's willingness to shop around and make more informed choices about their electricity supplier," she said.
"Many Kiwi families are concerned about managing their cost of living...it only takes a few minutes to get an estimate of potential savings."
Ms Parata said the average annual saving for households switching to the cheapest retail option in their area had been estimated at $150 -- a national saving of $240 million.
The What's My Number campaign is the result of a review of electricity market performance in 2009 which found that residential consumers could make significant savings by switching retailers.
