Telco will get its logo on Blues, Chiefs, Hurricanes, Crusaders and Highlanders' jerseys.
2degrees will be the exclusive telecommunications partner for all five New Zealand teams competing in the Investec Super Rugby competition from February 2018.
As part of the deal, the telco will get its logo on Blues, Chiefs, Hurricanes, Crusaders and Highlanders' jerseys.
2degrees already had a sponsorship with The Highlanders. Vodafone was the incumbent telco sponsor for other teams and 2degrees says it hasn't done a straight replacement but instead achieved a more comprehensive deal that includes jersey signage.
Chief executive Stewart Sherriff says the expanded sponsorship was a better fit than the Highlanders only, given his company has customers throughout the country. “This is a significant sponsorship for 2degrees. We think it’s a great metaphor for our growing scale and credibility, both as a business and as a provider of connectivity to 1.4 million Kiwis.”
2degrees won't put a dollar value on the sponsorship, which runs through to 2020.
The sponsorship caps a front-foot year for 2degrees. 2017 has seen the telco report its first profit, and be the first-to-market in New Zealand, with unlimited mobile data, time-based data and wi-fi calling.
Vodafone recently became the sponsor of the All Blacks' first mobile app, which includes footage of games licensed from Sky TV.
