2degrees' Tex: Vodafone trying to intimidate commission
There was a seething sea of comments after NBR's story on Vodafone withdrawing its $12 Talk offer yesterday – widely seen as a last-minute manoeuvre to avoid mobile market regulation.

2degrees had no official comment, beyond noting that Vodafone was still advertising the plan on its website $12 plan (it will be officially withdrawn at the end of today, Friday May 21; anyone signed by that time gets three months' notice).
But in the comments section after the story 2degrees founder and regulator affairs officer Tex Edwards (who later confirmed his comments to NBR), lets rip:
"It was expected that Vodafone would use intimidation tactics with the Commerce Commission by withdrawing its on-net pricing and to try and sway public opinion," wrote Mr Edwards on his rival's move yesterday.
Vodafone is also trying to further delay the Commerce Commission process, Mr Edwards said later.
He added, for good measure:
"It’s unfortunate that New Zealanders will have to suffer regulatory rhetoric from Vodafone for some time to come, but in my mind it does bring into question their commitment to their Social Responsibility Charter."
