Private Bin, as part of the media rabble, has a healthy respect for journalistic colleagues, even those in opposition.

However, sometimes we need to tell a tale or two in order to keep everyone on their toes. This time the tale is about Pattrick Smellie and his businessdesk.co.nz labelled offering to the world.

Private Bin thought something was a little ‘”Smellie,” as over recent years he’d been touting BusinessWire as an outsourced business news solution to various media organisations?

Why then the change to a Hickeyesque businessdesk.co.nz?

It seems that Smellie’s expertise as a business writer doesn’t extend to a rather important discipline called Intellectual Property.

BusinessWire, his formerly preferred name, happens to be exactly the same as wholly-owned subsidiary of NYSE-listed Berkshire Hathaway Inc, which happens to be owned by one Warren E. Buffett – the Oracle of Omaha and the third richest guy in the world worth nearly $US50 billion.

The change no doubt follows a ‘buffetting’ Smellie got from Warren’s lawyers, Private Bin has heard.
