Aaron Gilmore back in National fold

Disgraced former National Party MP Aaron Gilmore is taking another punt at politics after being elected to National’s Christchurch East electorate committee on Monday night.
Mr Gilmore resigned as an MP in mid-2013, after a boozy night out during which he threatened to use his influence with Prime Minister John Key to have an uncooperative waiter sacked.
It was all downhill from there for Mr Gilmore, at the time ranked 59th on National’s list. (Mr Gilmore had contested the Christchurch East electorate for National in 2011 but lost to Labour's Lianne Dalziel after receiving almost 20% less votes than her.)
Mr Gilmore’s fate was sealed by his inability to accurately recount events from the boozy dinner at a Hanmer Springs hotel, and the fact that he mislead John Key about the situation.
However, it took the emergence of inappropriate emails to force his resignation from Parliament.
Since his departure, Mr Gilmore has apparently been working as an investor.
In a blog post at the end of 2013, Mr Gilmore said he was able to invest up to $1 million which would “of course come with my direct involvement too.”
