Act Party deputy leader John Boscawen has announced he will stand for the Tamaki electorate in this year's general election.

The east Auckland electorate has been a safe National seat since 1960, and is currently held by Allan Peachey.

"As a Tamaki resident I know the people and also the important issues they face -- the key one being the state of the economy, which is an issue that is important throughout the country," Mr Boscawen said.

He said his primary focus during the election would be gaining party votes to keep Act in Parliament.
