Air NZ says Bruce Parton still in running for inner circle
Bruce Parton, who reportedly made a bid for the top job, a candidate for executive role.
BUSINESSDESK: Air New Zealand has clarified the absence of its general manager of short-haul Bruce Parton from a rejig of its executive structure announced to the NZX this morning.
From the start of next year, incoming chief executive Christopher Luxon will have seven inner circle people reporting directly to him, the same number of people who are part of current boss Rob Fyfe's executive team, but with new titles, Air NZ says.
Mr Luxon has kept chief financial officer Rob McDonald, chief flight operations and safety officer Captain David Morgan, chief marketing and customer officer Mike Tod and chief strategy and planning officer Stephen Jones.
The executive team will be rounded out by a new chief operations officer, chief commercial officer and chief people officer, yet to be named.
Air NZ spin doctor Marie Hosking told NBR ONLINE this afternoon Mr Parton, who reportedly made a bid for the top job, will be a candidate for one of the newly established roles in Mr Luxon's exective team.
Mr Luxon's appointment has seen GM of human resources Vanessa Stoddart flag her exit at the end of the year, and deputy CEO and 44-year industry veteran Norm Thompson will retire in June.
Glen Sowry, GM of operations, was another to jump ship, announcing his departure last month.
Shares in Air NZ rose 0.8% to $1.25 and have surged 39% this year.
