Clemenger Group subsidiary Raydar has won the Virgin Blue group of airlines account locally.
Clemenger BBDO (Sydney and Brisbane) and BBDO West (US) also work on the account.
The win will see Raydar handling the advertising for the New Zealand and Pacific Island markets for Pacific Blue and Polynesian Blue.
It’s the most recent coup for the agency that in early 2010 merged with Alphabet Soup, retaining the name Raydar.
Raydar managing director and owner Darryl McClay was paid $120,000 for the acquisition, plus a 20% shareholding in the new, Clemenger-owned Raydar.
Mr McClay said he was happy with the airline win.
“We instantly felt a good connection with the client and love the brand and what it stands for. We’re looking forward to helping Pacific Blue and Polynesian Blue create more success in a highly competitive market.”
It isn’t the only airline account for Clemenger Group – its prolific retail agency .99 is the lead on Air New Zealand.
Other Raydar accounts include Frucor Beverages, KFC, Pizza Hut and Kellogg’s.
“We are in an exciting phase of the business," Mr McClay said.
"Winning Pacific Blue is the icing on the cake and will allow us to showcase our full skill set from our creative to our operational ability."
The appointment takes effect immediately.
