ANZ’s deputy chief executive Steven Fyfe is retiring from the bank next month.

Mr Fyfe, who stepped in as acting chief executive when Jenny Fagg resigned to fight cancer last year, has been with the bank for 29 years.

Further details on his next steps were not available this morning, but ANZ will reveal plans to reallocate his responsibilities next month.

ANZ New Zealand’s new chief executive David Hisco said Mr Fyfe has had an outstanding career in banking.

“As deputy chief executive, he’s played a large part in maintaining ANZ New Zealand’s position as New Zealand’s leading bank and his experience, knowledge and his quiet and principled presence have been invaluable to the business,” he said.

Mr Fyfe’s career at the bank has included chief operating officer for ANZ National and managing director of ANZ Retail Banking (New Zealand).
