Auckland house prices showed signs of rising in September, but the number of sales remained subdued, latest figures from agency Barfoot & Thompson suggest.
The average price from the company's sales in Auckland was 2.5% higher than in August, and up 1.7% from a year earlier, at $523,861.
"It points to prices being stable and is a pleasing return after the decline seen in August," Barfoot & Thompson managing director Peter Thompson said today.
While prices were standing up well, sales were still only ticking over. Last month Barfoot&Thompson sold 689 residential properties in Auckland, the fourth consecutive month in which sales did not top 700 and well down on the 917 in September 2009.
A rise in new listings last month was a sign the market was stirring, Mr Thompson said.
The 1203 homes listed last month was up 10.8 percent on August, although still well down on the 1466 a year earlier.
At the end of September the company had 5572 homes on its books, in line with the number at the end of August and 6 percent up on September last year.
Average weekly rents last month of $407 were $1 up on August and $23 higher than in September 2009.
