Real estate agency Barfoot & Thompson reported higher sale prices last month but lower sale numbers compared to January last year.
Residential real estate prices in Auckland were up 2.1% on average in January compared to the same time last year, according to agency Barfoot & Thompson.
It sold 563 properties, down from 583 the same month last year and up 39 transactions from December. The price of the average sale was $515,693.
The number of new properties listed in January was 896, up from 737 in December but down by a quarter from new listings in January 2010.
“January’s sales were consistent with the pattern for the last quarter of last year. While turnover was modest, price movement was in a narrow band,” Barfoot & Thompson managing director Peter Thompson said.
“Compared to January last year our average January price this year was up $10,000, while the average price is down only $14,000 on that in December, a much lower gap than is often experienced between December’s and January’s values.”
