Big Australian grocers to face Parliamentary probe on profits

The inquiry could recommend more powers for the ACCC to control the grocery duopoly.

Greens politicians and consumer groups have claimed supermarkets have taken advantage of inflation to post bumper profits.

Australia’s two major supermarket operators Coles and Woolworths will face Parliamentary scrutiny over allegations of price gouging after both posted profits of more than A$1 billion this year.

The Greens have mounted a push to have the profits of the Big Two – which between them have about 65%
