Reports are emerging of an axe-wielding man attacking passengers on a train in Germany, wounding more than 20 people.
The victims include three seriously injured people, one with minor injuries and 14 who are in shock.
Though details are still uncertain, it is believed the suspect was shot dead by police as he fled the stopped train. The man is a 17-year-old from Afghanistan, according to Bavarian interior minister Joachim Hermann.
The minister also told media the incident was “probably” linked to Islamic extremism, as the boy is reported to have shouted “Allahu Akbar” (god is great) before assaulting the passengers.
A heavy police operation is now taking place in Heidingsfeld, which is part of the city of Wurzburg in the southern German region.
Authorities say the man carried an axe, along with other “blunt” and “slashing” weapons.
