Embattled MP John Banks may stand down as a minister early next week, according to iPredict traders.

More than half - 52% - of punters in the online political marketplace see the ACT Party leader temporarily standing down as a minister before Tuesday.

But they believe it is more likely that he will do so the following week - a separate trading stock shows he has a 62% chance of standing down before May 15.

A third stock has traders betting there is a 63% chance he will cease to be a minister altogether before the Budget on May 24.

Mr Banks is engulfed in a scandal over his alleged links to internet tycoon Kim Dotcom.

It is claimed he asked Mr Dotcom to make anonymous donations to his SuperCity mayoral campaign, which Mr Banks denies knowing about.

This week's NBR ONLINE Business Pulse Poll revealed NBR readers do not believe Mr Banks' explanation about the donations.

The result suggests the Epsom MP has lost the support of the party's conservative base.
