UPDATED: Westpac's creative account is up for pitch in the latest bank switcheroo.

BNZ said on Monday it had appointed Colenso BBDO as its creative advertising agency.  Colenso used to handle creative for Westpac but later that evening, the bank announced its creative account was up for pitch.

Westpac said its account was currently handled by five agencies, and it was looking to consolidate its providers after a review over recent weeks.

General marketing and customer experience Martine Jager said the time was right to consolidate the number of providers to meet Westpac's needs and objectives.

"We are thankful for the work and commitment of those who have partnered with us."

BNZ has appointed Colenso BBDO as its creative advertising agency.

The bank said the appointment reflected its drive to put marketing and a more powerful customer focused agenda at the forefront of its business.  It also made sense regionally, with its parent bank National Australia Bank working with Clemenger BBDO in Melbourne for the last six years, BNZ said.

BNZ chief marketing officer Craig Herbison said Colenso had the creative track record and brand acumen the bank was looking for to move its brand forward.

The appointment comes after BNZ told NBR last week that it had advised previous creative agency Sugar on February 29 that it would work out a three-month transition period.

It also follows after the bank's media account was dropped by SparkPHD, who won a regional pitch for ANZ's business.  BNZ said it was still working through the process of finding another media agency.
