Brownlee backtracks on red zone bill but questions remain

It remains unclear who will pick up the biggest share of the latest $205 million red-zone bill – the government or Christchurch City

Political leaders in Canterbury are backtracking on a deal which would see Christchurch City pick up half the $205 million cost of buying out red-zoned homes.

All other red-zoned properties have been acquired by the government.

The deal was struck last week between mayor Bob Parker and Canterbury
