Budget too bleak on outlook, says S&P

Forecasts assume New Zealand stays on alert for a further 10 months.

Economic forecasts in today’s Budget are too pessimistic, says ratings agency Standard & Poor’s.

Budget documents show the Treasury is expecting real gross domestic product to fall by 4.6% in the year to June and a further 1% the following year.

Substantial operating deficits are forecast
