Jetstar pulls out of regional routes - thousands affected

UPDATED: Shane Jones says taxpayers may need to step in.

Australian-owned airline Jetstar is pulling out of its regional routes at the end of November, citing weak demand and higher costs.

The routes, flown by Q300 turboprop aircraft, link Auckland with Nelson, Napier, Palmerston North and New Plymouth, and Wellington with Nelson.
