The National Business Review has launched new benefits for its member subscribers as well as opening up to new readers with a free trial offer.

From this week, premium NBR subscribers will be able to share up to five articles a month with as many people as they wish.

To do so, premium subscribers simply need to click on the ‘Gift This Article’ feature within stories to generate an email to send the story to anyone.

The NBR has also launched a free trial offer, which allows new subscribers to sign up for one-month full premium subscriber access for a discounted $9.99, with the first two weeks free and the ability to cancel at any time.

NBR chief executive Tim Martin, who took on the role in August, said the publication was excited to bring this innovation to its audience.

“The NBR consistently produces the best business journalism in the country,” he said. “We know with our business audience that each industry is different and the stories that appeal vary across sector. Our new share article feature allows our premium subscribers to share the stories that matter with their own networks to keep their teams better informed.”

It comes as the NBR welcomes new intermediate journalist, Nicholas Pointon, and two new economics columnists for our fortnightly Economy Matters column: BERL chief economist Hillmarè Schulze and Massey University innovation and economics professor Christoph Schumacher.

New platform

Martin, who most recently founded and led online rugby network RugbyPass before its US$40 million sale to Sky TV in 2019, became NBR’s CEO on August 22.

His track record includes establishing and growing RugbyPass and, before that, the founding of Coliseum Sports Media, which notably shook up sports broadcasting in New Zealand when it outbid Sky for the rights to show English Premier League football via a dedicated pay-per-view online platform, PremierLeaguePass.

Previously, Martin worked in advertising in Auckland, Singapore, and London.

Martin’s appointment came a few months after NBR launched its new website, offering a modern design and new elements to give a better user experience for its member subscribers. It also allows the team to better highlight breaking stories and in-depth features.

The new platform, designed by Auckland-based web developer Nero Motion, set the foundation for a better mobile experience, with an app now available to download as well.

Other recent innovations include adding new badges to commenter’s names, with a gold badge representing a subscriber who has supported our newsroom for at least five years, and a silver one for those who have subscribed for more than one year.
