Joan Withers has been named deputy chairman of Television New Zealand (TVNZ) and advertising agency guru Roger MacDonnell is joining the board.
Ms Withers is a fulltime company director who was appointed to the TVNZ board in October 2009. She was previously chief executive of Fairfax New Zealand.
Mr MacDonnell was a founding partner of the Colenso BBDO advertising agency and retired as chairman in 2008.
The agency gained notoriety in 1975 with Michael Wall's famous "Dancing Cossacks" ad for the National Party. It produced many iconic ads, including the Cadbury Crunchie train commercials, which ran for 30 years and the Barry Crump ads for Toyota.
The appointments were announced today by Broadcasting Minister Jonathan Coleman.
Mr MacDonnell is currently the director of an independent publishing company and chairs a Sydney-based recruitment agency. He replaces Rob Fenwick as a director and has been appointed until April 2013.
